GED TEST - Nebraska High School Equivalency Diploma

GED Application and Testing Requirements

Title of State Credential: State of Nebraska Department of Education High School Diploma.

Requirements for Issuance of Diploma prior to December 31, 2001: Minimum test scores: A standard score of 40 on each of the five tests and an average standard score of 45 on all five tests.

Requirements for Issuance of Diploma beginning January 1, 2002: Minimum test scores: A standard score of 410 on each of the five tests and an average standard score of 450 on all five tests.

Minimum age: 18 and is unable to secure a diploma from the high school he/she last attended; or the class of which he/she was a member at the time of withdrawal from school has been graduated for at least one year.

Residence: Applicant must be a resident of Nebraska for at least 30 days immediately preceding application, or final period of high school attendance during which credit was earned towards graduation must have been in a Nebraska high school.

(High schools may issue diplomas based on GED Test results).

Minimum Age and Conditions for Testing: 16 years of age and withdrawn from school.

Requirements for Retesting: Applicant must wait 60 days or provide evidence of concentrated study under an NDE approved learning center or tutor.

Method of Applying - Test Application Procedures:  Persons age 18 and older: Submit the following to an official Nebraska GED Testing Center:

  • A completed and notarized NDE Form # 12-003, available from the Nebraska Department of Education or official GED Testing Centers,
  • Supporting documents required by the GED Testing center, and
  • Evidence that 60 days have passed since withdrawal from a secondary school or a waiver of the 60 day period by the school last attended.

Persons under 18 years of age: Submit the following to the GED Administrator, Nebraska Department of Education:

  • A completed and notarized NDE Form # 12-003, available from the Nebraska Department of Education or official GED Testing centers,
  • A letter in the applicant's own handwriting stating the circumstances of withdrawal from the regular school program and the reason(s) for wanting to write the examination,
  • A copy of the applicant's transcript from the last high school attended, indicating the official date of withdrawal and graduation date of class from which withdrawal took place. Transcripts with the birth date will be acceptable verification of birth date; a copy of the individual's birth certificate if the date of birth cannot be verified by the high school transcript, and
  • Evidence that 60 days have passed since withdrawal from a secondary school or a waiver of the 60 day period by the school last attended.

Official Transcripts: Test scores are accepted as official only when reported directly by: Official GED Testing Centers; Transcript Service of the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES); Veterans Administration hospitals/ centers; and the GED Testing Service.
